Waimakariri Young Environmental Film MakersFilm Festival

Waimakariri Young Environmental Film Makers (WYEFM) encourages young people to explore environmental issues through the power of film. It provides an opportunity for students to share their ideas, raise awareness of local environmental challenges, and inspire others to take action to protect the natural world.

The WYEFM competition was open to Waimakariri primary school pupils, or home-schooled pupils, aged 9 - 13 years.

WYEFM will run again in 2028.

Ambrose Green, aged 12, a home-schooled pupil from West Eyreton, taught by his mother Ruth, has won the inaugural Waimakariri Young Environmental Film Makers (WYEFM) competition for his film 'Small actions. Big ripples. Looking after our waterways'.

The announcement was made by Waimakariri District Mayor, Dan Gordon, at Rangiora Town Hall Cinemas on September 18, where all eight finalist films in the competition were shown on the big screen in front of a large group of invited guests.
